Agency Worker Regulations (AWR)

This legislation came into effect on 1st October 2011. As with all new legislation there are a number of misunderstandings of the effect of the Act. One is that it is bad for business. This is not true as AWR is unlikely to impact on 80% of temporary and contract assignments.

UK business has thrived by having access to a flexible workforce primarily from services provided by recruitment agencies. There is a fear that AWR will increase costs and reduce flexibility of staffing. In the majority of situations costs will not increase and if implemented correctly UK business still has access to a flexible workforce.

What is most important is to ensure compliance with the legislation as penalties can be significant.
